Hooked on Golds' Question of the Week
WELCOME TO HOOKED ON GOLD'S QUESTION OF THE WEEK. Here is the place for some FUN, INFORMATION, and WINNING FREE GOLD! Now that we are all busy with gold and panning, sluicing, metal detecting and vacationing, we will suspend the Gold Question until next winter when we all will have more time to find questions, answer questions, and win gold instead of finding gold. I am planning on putting up some new information weekly with the resources I get the information from. The question is limited to the web, and so there is a lot of information on gold from books and magazines that I cannot ask about as everyone does not have the same resources. Some of this gold information is very timely, and there is much being discovered about ancient gold each year. Have a great summer, if your summer is now, or a great winter, if you are from down under, and a great temperate season if you are from Hawaii. Those of you in Alaska make all of us jealous with your LONG days! And now, the summer edition of the Gold Question of the Week. After you cruise the site, visit www.hookedongold.blogspot.com for archived questions, information and comment.
_______________ GOLD QUESTION OF THE WEEK SUMMER EDITION Ever wonder what favorite foods prospectors made sure they brought along with them to the gold fields? Well, of course, there would be the usual flour, beans, and bacon, but the most interesting thing I found that they would include were tins of oysters. I'm still not sure if they liked the oysters or the tins. They put a lot of their gold in the tins, and I still wonder if they liked the oysters and the tins were convenient, or they liked the tins more than the oysters. Oysters seem to be an odd thing to include as a necessity for prospecting, but the tin they came in might have been a very necessary piece of equipment. _________________________________ RULES: Answers must be submitted in words and from this page. The written answer, in your own words, (not a copy and paste out of a website) to the question will determine an answer's correctness, as a link may contain more than one possible answer. We want to make sure you understand the answer. If the monitor needs a clarification, you may be asked to submit your source so that it can be researched, as we try to be fair with answers that are close to what we are looking for. To facillitate things it would be best to submit your link with your answer. If the link has to be asked for, someone with the link and answer or an obvious answer in their own words, could come in and be correct before you can get back to submit the link. If the answer you have submitted is deemed incorrect, you MAY try again until a winner is found. All elligible answers must be submitted from this page. GOOD LUCK! It has become necessary to clarify some points of the question to make it easier for you to find the answers. We will not, at this time, be asking questions that would include anything to do with Spanish Territories or their mining operations here unless specifically stated. There is simply too much conflicting information both written and oral, and too much of it was in code. Also, this site is about GOLD not other metals. You may see an item once in a while concerning other metals, but it is merely in passing and as they pertain to gold. Questions about the U.S. will include ( and this may change) generally states after they have become a state, as well as the original 13. The midwest will include dates after the Louisiana Purchase, and California and its areas will include after the find at Sutters Mill. We will be looking for answers concerning American activities after 1776, and by US. Americans or their agents when a question is asked concerning the U.S. Ancient history should be self explanatory, and if an answer is to include Spanish mining, the question will say so. We hope this helps to clarify some of the confusion for you. It is GOOD to have this problem! It encourages us to continue with what has been a very popular page. We hope you are having fun with your research, 'cause we sure are! A 2 grain vial of crystalized gold from the Mad Muther Mine in Nevada is up for grabs, and can be yours just for being qualified, and the first to correctly answer the QUESTION OF THE WEEK! To insure that the gold gets passed around, winners will be limited to winning once every EIGHT weeks. Answers to the question of the week come in fast, so be quick. You will find the new Question posted on Wednesday mornings. A hint to the question will be given in the newsletter if a winner is not found before Friday morning so subscribe to the newsletter to get your updates on the question of the week, as well as other site updates and schedules.
